Low CAT Percentile? Best PGDM Colleges in Delhi You Can Still Get Into (2027)

A student considering PGDM options in Delhi with a CAT score, surrounded by signs highlighting PGDM, quality education, placements, industry exposure, and career opportunities.

If you are dealing with a low CAT percentile, the first thing to know is that your MBA plans are not over. Plenty of AICTE-approved PGDM colleges in Delhi shortlist candidates in the 60 to 85 percentile range, and several accept other exams (XAT, CMAT, MAT, GMAT) that you can still write for the 2027–29 batch. What matters is picking colleges whose real selection process fits your profile, and not paying for a brand that will not move your career.

Quick Answer

With a low CAT percentile (roughly below 80), your realistic Delhi options are PGDM colleges that shortlist on a broad profile: academics, work experience, group discussion and interview. Examples include NDIM Delhi, JIMS Rohini and LBSIM, though cutoffs shift each year. Top-tier institutes like FORE and IMI usually expect 85+. You can also improve your odds by writing XAT, CMAT or MAT before December 2026. Always confirm cutoffs with each college.

What Counts as a “Low” CAT Percentile?

“Low” is relative. A 78 percentile feels poor next to a friend’s 96, but it still puts you ahead of most of the people who wrote the exam. This article uses three informal bands. These are editorial labels, not official categories:

Band Percentile range What it usually means for Delhi PGDM
Below average Under 65 Fewer shortlists via CAT; other exams and strong profile become important
Moderate 65–80 Realistic for several private AICTE-approved institutes
Borderline-good 80–85 In range for mid-tier colleges; just short of FORE and IMI cutoffs

Two things to keep in mind. First, percentile is only one input. Most PGDM colleges also weigh your 10th, 12th and graduation marks, work experience, and how you perform in the GD and interview. Second, cutoffs are not fixed. They move with the number of applicants and the seats available.

Where Does CAT 2026 Stand Right Now?

If you have not registered for CAT yet, check this before anything else. According to Careers360 (2026) and Physics Wallah (2026), IIM Indore is conducting CAT 2026 on November 29, 2026, and the registration window closed on September 15, 2026. Those are secondary sources, so confirm any extension on the official site, iimcat.ac.in.

If you did register, results are expected in early January 2027, which means your percentile will not be known until after many other exam deadlines have passed. That is exactly why a backup exam plan matters.

Your Other Exam Options for the 2027–29 Batch

You do not need a high CAT score to apply to most Delhi PGDM colleges, because most accept multiple exams. NDIM’s eligibility and procedure page lists CAT, XAT, CMAT, MAT, ATMA, GMAT and state common entrance tests for shortlisting. Here is what the calendar looks like.

Exam Key date (2026–27 cycle) Status and source
XAT 2027 Exam: January 3, 2027; registration to December 6, 2026 Secondary reports of the official notification (Careers360, 2026); verify at xatonline.in
MAT (December session) PBT: December 20, 2026; CBT: December 27, 2026; registration closes December 14 / 21 FindMyCollege (2026); official site is mat.aima.in
CMAT 2027 Exam date reported as February 7, 2027 Careers360 (2026) reports this date. NTA had not announced the registration schedule at the time of writing, so check the official NTA website for updates
GMAT Year-round Check score validity rules with each college

One practical note: MAT scores are generally valid for one year, and CMAT is held once a year by the National Testing Agency. A decent MAT score in December can give you something to submit while you wait for CAT results.

Best PGDM Colleges in Delhi for a Low CAT Percentile (2027)

Before the list, a quick word on method. Each college’s own admission information was used where available, and published cutoff trackers were used only for percentile ranges. Most colleges in Delhi do not publish an official minimum percentile, so every range below is approximate and secondary-sourced. Treat them as a planning guide, not a promise. Also, this is not an exhaustive list of every PGDM college in Delhi-NCR.

Disclosure: This article is published by NDIM Delhi. NDIM is included because it is relevant to this question, and the other colleges are described as fairly as possible so you can compare.

1. NDIM Delhi (New Delhi Institute of Management)

NDIM runs a full-time, two-year PGDM with dual specializations at its Tughlakabad Institutional Area campus. According to the institute’s homepage, the programme is AICTE-approved, NBA-accredited, and its PGDM has been granted MBA equivalence by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU).

What makes it relevant if your percentile is modest:

    • Multiple exams accepted. CAT, XAT, CMAT, MAT, ATMA, GMAT or state CETs are all considered, per the admissions page.

    • Holistic selection. NDIM says final selection rests on overall performance, covering graduation, 10th and 12th marks, entrance score, GD/PI, and achievements such as work experience, sports or community work.

    • Eligibility. Any graduate from a UGC/AIU-recognised university, with at least 50% marks for general category (45% for reserved categories).

    • Fees. The fee page lists ₹7,00,000 per year for the 2027–29 batch (₹14 lakh over two years), excluding optional hostel and international study tours. Hostel twin-sharing starts at about ₹11,000 per month.

    • Scholarships. NDIM says it has a ₹2.5 crore pool for high percentiles and strong academics, plus rebates for categories such as defence wards and students from J&K and the North-East.

NDIM does not publish a minimum CAT percentile on its public admissions pages. If you are worried about your score, call the admissions helpline (1800-419-0606) and ask directly how your profile will be assessed. You can read the programme structure on the PGDM page.

Claims to verify yourself: NDIM reports 100% placement (verified by the Advertising Standards Council of India, per its site) and an AICTE-CII survey ranking for industry linkage. These are institute-reported. Ask for the latest batch’s placement report before you decide. The placements page is the place to start.

2. JIMS Rohini (Jagan Institute of Management Studies)

JIMS Rohini offers PGDM, PGDM (International Business) and PGDM (Retail Management). JIMS says its PGDM programmes are AICTE-approved (verify on the AICTE list), and its admissions FAQ says selection uses an entrance score (CAT, MAT, XAT, CMAT or GMAT), past academics, a group discussion and a personal interview.

On percentiles, trackers disagree. PaGaLGuY (2026) lists an expected CAT cutoff around 75 for the 2026 cycle, while other aggregators show figures in the high 60s to low 70s for the core PGDM, with lower numbers for the IB and Retail tracks. The safest reading: roughly 60 to 75 for CAT, depending on the programme, with CMAT and MAT requirements stated separately. Confirm directly.

3. LBSIM Delhi (Lal Bahadur Shastri Institute of Management)

LBSIM, in Dwarka, accepts CAT, XAT and GMAT for PGDM admission. CollegeDekho (2026) puts the expected CAT range at 70 to 85 percentile depending on the programme, with its core PGDM at the higher end and the AI & Data Science programme at the lower end. KollegeApply (2026) reports a December 20, 2026 application deadline, but verify it on the LBSIM website.

If your percentile is in the 70s, LBSIM’s analytics-focused programmes are worth a look. Note that some trackers say LBSIM does not accept CMAT, so check the current list before planning your exams.

4. FORE School of Management (a stretch for low scores)

FORE shortlists for its PGDM programmes on CAT, XAT or GMAT. CollegeDekho (2026), citing the institute’s admissions FAQ, reports a single minimum of 85 percentile for CAT. PaGaLGuY (2026) reports closing percentiles around 85 in recent cycles, so there is little room below that. If you are in the low 80s, FORE is a long shot, but an XAT score could change the picture.

5. IMI New Delhi (a stretch)

IMI uses profile-based shortlisting on CAT, XAT or GMAT and does not publish fixed cutoffs. Trackers such as PaGaLGuY (2026) estimate 88–90+ for the flagship PGDM and slightly lower for the HRM and Banking & Financial Services tracks. It is included so you can calibrate what “high” looks like, not because it is a realistic target for a low percentile.

Quick Comparison Table

College Exams accepted Approx. CAT range (secondary sources) Fit for a low percentile?
NDIM Delhi CAT, XAT, CMAT, MAT, ATMA, GMAT, state CETs No minimum published; ask admissions Yes, holistic review of the full profile
JIMS Rohini CAT, MAT, XAT, CMAT, GMAT ~60–75 (varies by programme) Yes
LBSIM Delhi CAT, XAT, GMAT ~70–85 Partly, depends on programme
FORE CAT, XAT, GMAT ~85+ Stretch
IMI New Delhi CAT, XAT, GMAT ~88–90+ Stretch

Percentile ranges are approximate. They are based on third-party reports published in 2025–26, not official college announcements, and the actual cutoff may differ this year. Please confirm with each college before applying.

How to Choose When Your Percentile Is Low

A lower percentile means you have fewer choices, which makes each choice matter more. Before you pay any application or registration fee, run through these checks.

1. Confirm regulatory status. Check that the institute is on the AICTE’s approved list at aicte-india.org and that its PGDM carries MBA equivalence from the AIU. You can see NDIM’s own details on its AICTE approval page.

2. Ask for placement data, not slogans. Request the last two batches’ reports: number of students placed, median package (not just the highest), and the roles offered. A “highest package” figure tells you very little.

3. Look at the whole cost. Two-year PGDM fees in Delhi vary widely. NDIM lists ₹14 lakh for two years, while aggregators put JIMS Rohini’s total PGDM fee at roughly ₹9–10 lakh (secondary figures, so confirm with the college). The gap is significant. Add hostel, travel and living costs, then compare against realistic starting salaries.

4. Check the learning model. Internships, live projects and mentoring matter more than a glossy campus when your score is modest, because they give you evidence of ability that a percentile does not. NDIM, for instance, lists internships and live projects as part of its industry interface.

5. Pick a specialization you can defend in an interview. NDIM’s dual specializations include Business Analytics, Finance, Marketing, HR and others. If you are weighing options, the specializations page is a useful starting point.

Illustrative Scenarios

These are made-up examples to show how the thinking works, not real student records.

Scenario A: 68 percentile, 2 years of work experience, 72% in graduation. Your CAT score alone is modest, but experience and consistent academics help in PGDM selection. Apply to JIMS Rohini and NDIM, write MAT in December, and consider XAT if you can prepare in time.

Scenario B: 79 percentile, fresher, strong 10th and 12th. You are in LBSIM’s range for some programmes. Apply broadly, and prepare seriously for the GD and PI, since many colleges give those rounds real weight.

Scenario C: 55 percentile, did not register for XAT. Rather than giving up on a Delhi PGDM, aim at CMAT in early 2027 and MAT in December, and use the time to build a stronger interview profile through certifications or work.

A Practical Timeline from Now to Admission

    1. October to early November 2026: Short-list 5 to 8 colleges. Register for XAT (deadline reported as December 6) and MAT (December 14 or 21 depending on mode). Do not wait for CAT results to start applications.

    1. November 29, 2026: CAT 2026, if you are registered.

    1. December 2026: Sit MAT. Submit applications to colleges with early deadlines (LBSIM’s reported deadline is December 20).

    1. January 2027: XAT on January 3; CAT results expected in the first week.

    1. February to April 2027: CMAT, GD/PI rounds, offers and fee deadlines. Compare scholarship offers before you pay.

How to Prepare for GD and PI With a Low Score

For a mid-percentile candidate, this stage often decides the outcome, so put real effort into it.

    • Know your story. Be ready to explain your score honestly and show what you have done since.

    • Read widely. Business news, economy basics and current affairs come up often.

    • Practise out loud. Mock GDs with peers beat silent reading every time.

    • Show a profile, not just a number. Internships, projects, volunteering, sports and leadership all count. NDIM’s selection criteria explicitly list these.

    • Be prepared to talk about your choice of college. Interviewers notice when candidates have not done their homework.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

    • Applying to only one or two colleges. Cutoffs shift, so spread your applications.

    • Trusting a single cutoff figure. As the JIMS Rohini example shows, trackers disagree. Go to the college.

    • Paying for “guaranteed admission” offers. Genuine PGDM admission goes through a published selection process.

    • Ignoring approval status. An unapproved diploma will not be recognised for jobs or higher study.

    • Choosing on ranking alone. Rankings change; your two years there are fixed.

Ready to Apply?

If your profile fits what NDIM looks for, you can start on the admissions portal for the 2027–29 batch. The application fee is ₹1,000 (non-refundable), followed by a group discussion and personal interview. Frequently Asked Questions

Can I get into a good PGDM college in Delhi with a low CAT percentile?

Yes, depending on what you mean by “good.” Several AICTE-approved private institutes shortlist candidates in the 60–85 range and weigh academics, experience and interviews. Top-tier institutes such as IMI and FORE generally expect 85 or higher.

What is a good CAT percentile for Delhi PGDM colleges?

It depends on the college. Mid-tier institutes often sit in the 60–85 band, while higher-ranked ones sit above that. Treat all published figures as approximate and confirm with the college.

Does NDIM Delhi have a minimum CAT percentile?

NDIM’s public admissions pages do not state one. The institute says selection depends on overall performance, including exam scores, academics, GD/PI and other achievements. Contact admissions for guidance on your profile.

Which other exams can I take if my CAT score is low?

XAT (January 3, 2027), MAT (December 20 or 27, 2026), CMAT (reported for February 7, 2027), and GMAT are the main options. Check each college’s accepted-exam list first.

Is a PGDM equal to an MBA?

Where the institute is AICTE-approved and the AIU has granted equivalence, a PGDM is treated as equivalent to an MBA for most employment and higher-study purposes. NDIM reports this equivalence on its site. Verify for any college you consider.

Should I retake CAT or join a PGDM now?

It depends on your goals. If your target colleges are out of reach and you can realistically improve, a retake may help. If a good, approved PGDM is within reach and the cost fits your budget, joining may serve you better than waiting a year.

Are scholarships available for mid-range percentiles?

Some colleges offer them. NDIM says its scholarship amount varies with the percentile and exam, and also considers academic record. Ask each college for its exact criteria in writing.
