Session 1: Travel and Life Style

Moderator Mr. Arvind Passey shared that “observation, expression writing & ability to express it right are the key abilities for blogging”. He also shared that a travel blogger must be a good observer. Other panelists included Mr. Mohit Ahuja (Bikers for Good), Mr. Suyash Srivastava (Principal Sports Correspondent, Zee Network), Jaswinder Grewal (Life Coach) and Mr. Kumar Deep (Head- External communications, Vodafone India). Kumar Deep also apprised students of risks of forwarding any posts until you are sure of that as a false viral post can also hampers someone’s image & brand badly. NDIM Student Roshan Rai also shared his experience of blogging & tips to write good blogs.

Session 2: Entrepreneurship and Social Entrepreneurship

Moderator Shalabh Mittal advised students that having a mentor is very important. If you don’t have one please find one. The panelists Mr. Deepak Goel (Founder, iMET Global), Dr. Avijit Chakraborty& Mr. Gaurav Sharma shared different views on the topic. Gaurav Sharma also offered NDIM students to contact him for angel investment for their company.

Session 3: Demonetization

Moderator Wg. Cdr Bhupender Renjen appreciated the strong & big decisions taken by present Indian government. He also said that the bloggers are writing a lot about it, even if a lot of it is humour and satire. NDIM students Gautam Arora shared various good examples on the trending hashtags, Whereas Nikita Mishra, Student of NDIM shared different perspective of Demonetization Dr. Mukul Jain, Director Finance SEBI shared the various benefits of demonetization & how blogging helps us in improving our language.

Session 4: Marketing & HR

Moderator Mr. JP Singh shared how social media & blogging helps in marketing & shared a famous quote by Einstein, “Not everything that counts can be counted and not everything that can be counted counts”. Dr. Nupur quoted “Blogging is about what your audience wants not what you want” Dr. Yogyata Gandhi shared how Blogging helped her in clearing the misconceptions of her clients related to pregnancy & other things. NDIM student Abhay Nair also shared his experience of Blogging & how it helps him express his thoughts.

Dr. Narayan emphasized that human brain stores and processes information / knowledge as metaphors, and since a case study is a metaphor, case based teaching is close to how human brain stores and processes information. He also emphasized that case studies should be used to teach concepts, and it should be clear as to which concepts would be covered by a case study. Dr. Narayan emphasized that it is extremely important that students participate actively during discussions. A teacher must ensure that his students prepare thoroughly, and contribute wholeheartedly when a case study is discussed. Four case studies were taken up to demonstrate as to how a case should be discussed in class. Dr. Narayan emphasized that a teacher should write down points on the blackboard as they emerge in class. The discussion remains on track when such a procedure is followed.

The Retail Management Simulation provided an excellent opportunity for enhancing leadership and teamwork skills and promoting better decision making by closely tying strategic planning and execution decisions to company performance. Further, the simulation enabled a greater understanding of the financial impact of merchandising, pricing, promotion, store operations and human resource decisions and how they flow to bottom-line performance. The participants were divided in to team of 6 and each given the login ID and password for entering in to a simulated environment.

While maintaining a bottom line focus, the teams understood the importance of consistently delivering customer value in light of the competitive marketplace. They played it enthusiastically.

Student’s excitement was at its peak during the drive and they did not leave any stone unturned in cleaning the area and the parking lot. NDIM students asked while interacting asked whether one should look for a start-up or an already well established firm to work for, he advised to work for an already well-established firm first and then after a couple of years switch to a start-up. When asked that should a management graduate look for his personal goals or work towards the organizational goals, he said that generally it is said that one should work towards the organizational goals, wherein if the organization achieves its target, the individual will automatically achieve his/her personal goal. He also said that it’s not always necessary that one is allowed to freely do whatever he/she wants to do in a start-up, which is generally the thinking of the young graduates.

ITC runs two warehouses – one for fresh garments and the other for return garments. Students learnt how fresh garments arriving from suppliers are checked and then put on racks. They are then picked and packed for shipping to retailers. Similarly, they learnt how return garments are rectified and then send back to different types of stores

How to facilitate successful learning and overcome challenges related to Unsuccessful learning. The thrust and emphasis was on Active Learning - which includes Wanting, Doing, Applying and Practicing. As part of the experiential learning process for the student community - Dr. Basu shared details of the academic practices adopted at Centre for Entrepreneurship - San Jose State University which comprised Innovative Project involvement, Flipped classroom learning, Participation in events followed by presentation concerning observations and learning's. Specifically she highlighted some of the initiatives taken at Silicon Centre for Entrepreneurship which included innovation challenge, Business Plan Competitions, Internships with startup ventures, and eminent speaker series.

She concluded by stating that learning is more complete and relevant when the programs are enriching, rich pool of faculty members are involved, Strong linkages with industry is established, sound international connections are created and students are encouraged to undertake shadow projects.

It was heartening to note that NDIM teaching pedagogy is no way inferior to the international best practices adopted globally and San Jose University and NDIM could collaborate for designing a contemporary course on entrepreneurship and introduce systems and processes and incubation centre's for promoting the spirit of entrepreneurship among the talented young management graduates.
